People with NSIS experience?

This is for any people that have got NSIS experience or want to learn it, and want to support creating a custom Firefox Folding@Home Team installer. The installer would need to install Folding@Home as a service on all Windows versions after Windows 95, and automatically detect multiple CPU PCs and install multiple clients accordingly.

The project will be hosted on SourceForge.net with CVS support.

Also note that you'll not be alone: I am going to learn NSIS scripting, there's someone else helping (not full time, though) and we already have an old installer for Folding@Home version 4 (so it's mostly code cleanup and bugfixing what needs doing).

If you want to help or need any more information, just add a comment!

NSIS?

I'd like to learn, but have no experience. If anybody would like me to help, throw an e-mail my way @ xcdustin@hotmail.com

Uni

What we need is people who work for university IT who can just take this installer and throw it at a couple hundred machines. :)

Exactly!

Exactly... MSI packages would be best for that but I think they're more difficult than NSIS. The custom installer will simplify multi-CPU installs, and will make sure the user won't notice FAH running by setting it to run as a service (maybe some users will forget it and still help the team)...

Installer

Looks like the idea is going to do some good :)

This will hopefully help our team to grow faster, keep more members, and hopefully get some more 1K+/day folders. Hey, I shouldn't keep first with only 800-1k points/day forever: anyone have 30 computers at their disposal?

Beaucoup computers?

Sure, I have loaded folding@home on 24 right now. With my sister included (she has a P4 2.6 Ghz) that will be 25. Unfortunately, only my home computer stays on all the time (it's an ancient P2 350 Mhz). Fourteen of them are 800 Mhz P3's (these stay on all hours of the regular school week), and the rest are all P4's from 2.4-2.6 Ghz (these only stay on during school hours). All of these computers are in my lab. Sometime next week, I should see somewhere around 20 WU finished--and that should help us out quite a bit. I'm also getting a bit obsessive and posting in various forums that I am a member of to encourage them to join our team. We will see if we get results!

Cheers!

Cheers!

I have experience

Hey.

I have some experience with custom NSIS scripting. For instance, I recently made a branded Gaim [sic] installer for a corporation I contracted out to.

So, if you have questions, fire away.
-hope-

PS Netscape 8 is the poorest piece of software I've ever attempted to use and even broken Opera's bloat record :-/ Now we not only have to worry about IE7 but also people associating FireFox w/ NS8 :-/

cool!

Heh :)
Well I think it's still better than IE, although it has a partial IE engine... the IE engine is what sucks, not primarily the browser itself imo.

I'll send you a mail.
